One of my first poems

This poem was written as an expression of a place and time and represents much more as I find that colors bleed and flags need states or a union.  I captured my own feelings and as the years pass and I reexamine it, the more I see the simplicity of it all.  I still feel the freedom it gives me to read it and would change the structure if I could keep the feeling in tact.  Its questionable.
A Ghostly Flag
Pure as soft cotton growing under a hot sun.
Cotton as white as luminous, billowy clouds floating above.
Stretched into thread as white as fresh fallen snow.
A white flag is born.
A flag with no colors, no emblems, no country to call its own.
Opposing winds tatter and tear the banner to its fringes.
Surrender becomes a situation that cannot be won.
A plain white flag is waved.
Sanguinary blood splatters as it rises to cease fire.
Cerulean teardrops stain descending down like ink on paper.
A bleeding pennant remains on the battlefield.
A flag is reincarnated.
Now an emblem no longer pure or white.
Strong winds dispatch the flag to fly home.
Resurrected spirit no longer surrendered.
An unarmored flag has won.

My Two Step

My Two Step
This was written in response to the Twelve Steps of AA programs.  There was a time in my life I attended various Twelve Step programs, from AA to NA to Codependents Anonymous and Survivors Anonymous.  I had listened to the stories and drew what I needed from them.  However, the relationship wasn't reciprocal because I didn't want to share.  My mistake but I was suffering from extreme shyness and on guard with my need for privacy.  I believe in one principle of the Twelve Steps, which is to make amends when warranted.

Also, the Serenity Prayer runs through my mind from time to time and most recently, the last line to "Let Go and Let God."  Here is the prayer:

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Anger, stress and frustration
riddled by misinterpretation.

Down with depression.
Down with obsession.

All have lessons to learn,
just give and take a turn.

Conjure the tears.
Conquer the fears.

The spirit must unload
the soul slowly unfolds.

Free the sad Queen of tarts.
Free the drum beating heart.

Enter the door to knowledge
go above and beyond college.

Listen to the streets.
Listen to the beats.

Into a tunnel for the unblinded
revealing worlds unsighted.

See the kindred spirits.
See those who feel it.

Giving respite for the weary
eyes tired and bleary.

Watch them share.
Watch them care.

Bodies moving in slow motion
paced by one love devotion.

Take a chance.
Take a dance.

Love the beats and pulses
as the heart and mind converges.

Close your lies.
Close you eyes.

The sound can patch up fences
so no more sitting on benches.

Breathe in the air.
Breathe uncompared.

Urbis

URBIS

Some of the following poems have been posted for reviews on Urbis.  The website is a unique exchange system of giving and receiving critique and with the help of other Urbis users, I've managed to continue to write and learn about emotions, compassion, skills, dilemmas, artistry and humor.  I thank those who have been a part of my journey and took time to take a look.  Most of my writings are truly for myself, an exercise of my mind or exorcising of my spirit, the words are mine, borrowed from others in heart and reinterpreted for my self preservation and survival.
